Nurse educator Brenda Whyatt of Western Regional School of Nursing (WRSON) along with co-investigator Dr. Roza Tchoukaleyska, assistant professor, School of Science and the Environment, are interested in learning more about the self-provisioning resources and assets that exist in the St. Anthony area.
To help frame the study, community members with varying levels of knowledge and experience with self-provisioning were invited to meet and share their insight into self-provisioning challenges and successes in the area. This helped guide the study titled, Improving access to quality food: A community food self-provisioning needs assessment.
"We are interested in learning about how community members view self-provisioning, the potential challenges and successes of self provisioning and the possible links to access to quality foods," said Ms. Whyatt.
Online and paper-based surveys are being used to complete the initial community scan, and focus groups will be used as a follow up to the survey. The project has received $16,000 in funding from the Harris Centre.
